Surf Inspired Decor

Growing up, my grandparents had a beach house that we used to spend a lot of summers at. After they sold it, years and years ago, I always thought I’d manage some day to buy it back. Then I’d be able to decorate it how I wanted and hang out at the beach and surf and sleep all day and I would get sand on the deck all day long. My beach house would be cool like that. I still have not come to terms that I am NOT a millionaire and this might not happen. It will happen.

Oddly enough, what you see above is a WAY more polished version of what I had always dreamed of. I used to love the beach houses that had milk cartons used as side tables and  surf boards laying all over the place, cool random things found on overseas surf trips.  This seemed really cool…..when I was 15.  I’d like to think I’ve matured (maybe) since then. I love the clashing patterns and how laid back it feels. What I love most is that it feels global and eclectic.

Now, all I need is about 4 million dollars and we’re ready to go.

Black Shorts: Sleek and Monochromatic

I have been loving black shorts a lot lately. There is something that seems so effortless and polished about them. I think the key is sticking to simple pieces and staying monochromatic. It’s a no-fail formula. I wore something very similar last week with sandals and then at night test drove some patent pumps and I loved it. Although, I ruined by accidentally dressing too similar to my husband. So I threw a denim jacket over it. I thought it still looked great, but lost the impact.

It’s officially summer and I am so excited for what I have planned! This might be the first summer I’ve ever had, where I do not have a single weekend free, I actually don’t think I have one open until October. I am not letting the weather go to waste, rest is for rainy days.

Worker Bee

This week I really have been working on getting it together. Not that I’m a mess, by any means, but I’m lazy. I’ve been trying to get to the gym 5 day a week and eat better. I usually start out really well, until Thursday hits and all bets are off. I’ve also been putting off a 5 mile run (which I’ve had scheduled for every Thursday this month). This week I’ve managed to do 4 out of 5 of my workouts so far, including my 5 mile run. Kinda proud of myself.

In addition, I’ve really been working on my office, as you know. Now that I work from home, trying to figure out the kinks so that it a productive and inspiring workplace has been a challenge. It’s taken a lot of trial and error, but it’s coming along, well, my half has.

Also, my friends and I went to a wine tasting event at the Phoenix Hotel. It was pretty amazing and I might be obsessed with this bar sign. Future DIY perhaps?

Rug Look-a-likes

I’ve been obsessing over what rug I want in my office and thought I would share a few look-a-like options at different price ranges I found. Rugs are so expensive! Although, I will say, that after everything is said and done, I might go with the one below. It’s a combo of both the diamond and zigzag pattern. That worked out quite nicely.

Clockwise from top left:
Souk Rug (West Elm) $499

Ivory Moroccan Shag Rug (World Market) $299

Flokati Diamonds Rug (Anthropologie) $898

Black & White ZigZag Rug (Madeline Weinrib) $325
