I went thrifting on Tuesday and found this amazing dress, but knew, right off the bat, I was going to rip it apart. Luckily, I didn’t have to do a complete overhaul but I wanted to try something different. I haven’t really hopped on board with the peter pan collar trend yet, but I think it’s what this dress needed.
First thing I did was get rid of the skirt portion using a seam ripper, then scissors. After that I removed the collar and sleeves. I then cut a lower neckline and larger arm holes. I put the dress on and marked where I needed to cut with straight pins and then cut accordingly. Then I sewed the hems I took out before back up and the arm holes, leaving the just the collar.
The came the peter pan collar. I wasn’t quite sure how to do this so I followed a tutorial by Leafy Treetop Spot. It worked great! BUT the fabric I chose, looked horrible when I had everything together, and I didn’t have any white fabric laying around the house. So, I removed the lining from the skirt portion and created a new peter pan collar with that. Janky? Yes, but I love how it turned out.
